Hurricane Paloma strengthened briefly to a very dangerous category gour hurricane briefly over the weekend before making landfall along the southern coast of Cuba. It was expected to weaken rapidly as it moved acrosss the island, with wind shear reducing the storm to a mere low pressure system within days.
